Stampede

(It was) about that time when I finally realized that this perfect fit just wasn’t it for me,
Ain’t nobody got time for this.
The sisiphus climb. Don’t ask why and always tro to turn the tide,
Be done with it! Flip the switch and ditch the bitch!

Are you talkin to me? Are you talkin to me?
After everything that you’ve done you think you will find love up from a above?
A never forgive, never forget elephant
You can walk ten thousand miles and you’ll never be ahead of me or my stampede

Now and then you’ll see a grin upon my chin.
It goes deep than just the skin. Well how bout that?
Everyday was always the same; Work so hard only for your gain.
I must be insane to think that things will change.
Never again. Never again. Never again.

Are you talkin to me? Are you talkin to me?
After everything that you’ve done you think you will find love up from a above?
A never forgive, never forget elephant

The boys have their rivalry
Who can make those girlies cream their jeans.
Lie to her, make her believe.
My God what have we done?

Daddy said no no no
Daddy said it’s time to go
Daddy said no no no
No one said you had to be alone
Run away from that ghost
Run away from your ghost
Run away from your ghost
Run away from that ghost
You’ll never be, ahead of me or my stampede

Straight Face

It was always your plan to try and misunderstand,
How dumb do you really think I am?
You always fire your gun. Then you sit and play dumb.
What the hell is it that you’re running from?
Hey! What was that?

Hey sucka got something to say?
What did you think this was a game?

Finger on the trigger.
Bullet in the barrel and I’m ready to go.
I thought you, Had gone through,
Everything that you needed to ‘a do,
How did we get to this place?
Razor sharp and ready with a straight face

In you sunday best, underneath you’re such a mess.
What do you mean when you’re wishing me the best?
A moving target’s hard to hit but this time I’m sure I won’t miss,
So why not give ole Mo-Boy a kiss?
Hey! What was that?

Hey sucka got something to say?
What did you think this was a game?

Finger on the trigger.
Bullet in the barrel and I’m ready to go.
I thought you, Had gone through,
Everything that you needed to ‘a do,
How did we get to this place?
Razor sharp and ready with a straight face

You’re going on your own, You don’t know where to go oh oh,
You’re a long way from home
When you’re going on your own, You don’t know where to go no no
You’ve got nowhere else to turn
Hey! What was that?

Hey sucka got something to say?
What did you think this was a game?

Finger on the trigger.
Bullet in the barrel and I’m ready to go.
I thought you, Had gone through,
Everything that you needed to ‘a do,
How did we get to this place?
Razor sharp and ready with a straight face

Staring at Shadows

Go away with all your common sense and logical talk,
Everybody knows if you know how to talk than you don’t have to learn how to walk

Just like some crazy people we like to stare at shadows on the wall,
So we stare at shadows

Facts and truth and the golden goose that they hold in front you,
You were guaranteed to lose born into a noose with the excuse it was all on you

Just like some crazy people we like to stare at shadows on the wall,
So we stare at shadows

When we travel through time, without leaving our minds
You don’t care which way we’re going no
And when we travel through time.
Without leaving your mind you can’t imagine why,

Just like some crazy people we like to stare at shadows on the wall,
So we stare at shadows

Got a full plate on my table no time for Plato’s Fable’s at all,
So we stare at shadows

Lovesick

How was I supposed to know?
I came running halfway through my tv show left supper on the stove on low.
Whoa, man I wish I wasn’t this stoned.

Remember when we were together?
(Remember when we were together)
Talkin it out never made it better.

A pretty face got the best of me.
You know that love is a cure and a disease.

Your eyes may dilate
And your thoughts may race
Your heart may start to pick up the pace
Cause you’re in love or just afraid

Remember when we were together?
(Remember when we were together)
Talkin it out never made it better.

A pretty face got the best of me.
You know that love is a cure and a disease.

Look boy see what you’ve done,
Turns out the girl ain’t as special like you thought she was
And all this time I thought you were having fun

Remember when we were together?
(Remember when we were together)
Talkin it out never made it better.

A pretty face got the best of me.
You know that love is a cure and a disease.

Let me Be

Saw that girl from across the way
I don’t know what made me say I’d make her mine one day
If only then I could see all of the pain and misery
That hid behind a pretty face

Oh well, I don’t care.
I’ve been dropped too many times right there.
I’ve been stomped, I’ve been dropped,
Let me show you around while you’re here

I once knew a girl who could play better than the world
But when she did she faced away,
I thought you had something to say,
That familiar glance but called away
You never got back to me that night
No matter how you try you won’t admit

How can you say that you didn’t feel the pain?
Straight to your face I said hell no, get out, no way.

Did you think it would impress me if you didn’t disagree when I said it was time for you to leave?
I thought you had something to say, snot was running down your cheek
Please God don’t you do this to me! Which lie should I believe?
Just let me be

The road it bends and I cannot see the end,
I’m not afraid to go down that road.

Liner Notes:

It had been a long time since the traveler had enjoyed the savory smell of his grandmother’s chicken. It wasn’t out of his will that he had made this stop. His 5 legged tractor had split a sprocket or two on it’s journey but hadn’t shown signs of wavering in the coming miles before it’s halt.

What is your name? The face on the wall asked. My friends know me as Traveler but you can call me Sage. I see you’ve got shadows. Care to tell me about them?

Where are you from? It asked. I was birthed in the land of clear waters but the waters ain’t so clear no more.

You are a long way from the land of clear waters. It said. What is it that you seek? It asked. The great secrets.

On its other side snakes came from every which way. With a heckle and a swift goddamnit he shot every last one of them with grit and marksmanship. Never felt so ashamed and proud in his life. Snakes don’t know no better but he ain’t about to get bit.

The walls make good company round here. Care if I tell you a story? Go ahead. Wisdom was a hard thing to be found where I was. I had nothing except for everything a man could want. They sought me for my charms. The people’s jealousy stunk like a badger dead in a hot trunk.

Every evening I sat by the fire and watched it’s ember’s glow. The ambers leapt from their place and I held my bucket firmly by my side as the fires grew and I was burned. Is that why your face is the way it is? I tell myself it ain’t but perhaps you’re right.

I hadn’t seen a face like that in my travels. Her eyes were as white as eggs. Her skin was black shimmering white gold. I took the last bite of a mustard corndog and tossed it. With the heart of a lion I came to her and I told her I would marry her. What did she say? Stay put, she said. I felt a snare wrap around me like a knot twisting around my heart.

Your skin is fresh. Your skin is young. The walls echoed to him. Look closer, wherever your eyes are. I’m old enough to know why you ought to keep your lips tight. I’m old enough to know why not to use old maps. I’m old enough to know how I see children with old skin.

You’re not as old as me, they said. You’re not old enough to listen, they said. Go on with your story. I can listen for years. My heart was squeezed tighter and tighter with the stubborn knot. Picking it did no good. I quit trying. Left it choking and walked far beyond the bend.

The smell of burning caught my scent and I followed it off the map. It was a man. He was familiar and strong but he was burning. What is your name? I asked him. He said Buddah. Let me help you, I said. Don’t, he replied. But you’re burning, I said. I know, he replied. You’ll be dead soon, I told him. I know, he replied.

Were you scared? I’ve seen scarier things than talking walls. I had to go into the murky woods where my map was no good. A red crook-faced owl perched next to me and told me to keep my eyes in my pockets. The bottle she feathered me kept me stuck where I was. If in I ever left the woods it would be on account of my eyes in their sockets and not in my pockets. Many hours, days and months were spent wondering round those murky woods. I couldn’t see a damn thing but I couldn’t get myself to leave.

I saw a boy who looked just like you. He was sneaking around like he was ashamed of who he was and where he’d come from. He looked just like you but I knew it couldn’t have been you because you’d never be so ashamed.

The Traveler found the door and turned the key. Wooden floors and a fresh baked chicken lit by candlelight and the setting sun. Purple and red painted across the sky. Like old hardened toothpaste the knot choking his heart broke apart into bits. I think this is the place. You’d be right said the two elders. When do we eat? When it is time to. What should I say? What you are meant to. Should I be scared? The third and the wisest said, stay. Wait here.

I waited and saw you arrive.
